The Sea Guides Us
History: 200 years ago, Silvrin Tarris sailed off from Lys, on a ship with 50 men, 10 women, and 100 sealed barrels, each containing a different poison, and all of them very much stolen from a rich Lysene estate of some rich Lysene lord. He had no plan but a dream to be more than he was in the poisonous island of Essos. Upon reaching Sunspear, Silvrin lost 32 of his men, all of his women, and 75 of his poison barrels, the last in a seemingly unfortunate robbery. He managed to sell the rest for a high price, and bought himself a better ship. In the duration of the next 5 years, he was able to settle down, and with scarce knowledge he had on making poisons, even made some extra coin for himself and his now 4 remaining comrades. His trip to Westeros was starting to look like a bad idea. He'd put so much effort into something that was only slightly better than his life in Lys. Sunspear was a good city, but it wasn't for him nor was Westeros as it seemed.
With a new resolve to start his life once again from the beginning back in Essos, he bought himself enough men to sail his ship off Sunspear and into the Summer Sea again, his destination now North. A heavy storm threw the ship off course, and into the mess of the Stepstones in the Broken Arm. They were stuck there for a good month, battling with waves and rain, until finally they got out, now in the Sea of Dorne. At first they believed they would soon reach Myr, but instead, the waters brought them to a sorry excuse of an island, populated by goats and men who barely spoke. The sailors cursed the sea, but Silvrin blessed it. His new beginning was nearer than he'd thought it would be.
It took him 6 years and all of his savings to build a castle on the rocky island, and declare himself king of the Grey. He wed one of the islanders and thus the house began. But being on such a small and discarded island, house Tarris went unnoticed. Silvrin refused to sail away again, content with whatever the island and its people had to offer. They stayed there, quiet as they'd always been, until the lord's first son took the matter of the house into his own hands. The young man, hungry for something more than goat milk and meat, boarded his father's old ship, and sailed to Essos. 4 years he was away, and on the 5th he returned with a second ship, and both filled with goods from all over the east.
Tarris became a name associated with trade of exotic goods, slowly becoming richer than the small island of Ghaston Grey could ever be. The family though never left the damned island, still thinking of it as a sacred place. They stayed there, while the first born of every generation sailed off to bring his family good fortune and wares to trade, upholding the tradition of the first son.
General Information: The Tarris are known throughout Westeros for being a rich house, but also are usually discarded since they barely communicate with the inner part of Westeros, mostly doing business in Dorne and in Essos. Some have tried to rob them and erase their tiny existence from the map, but they never end up finding anything of much value in the Tarris castle, if they manage to get past the hoard of mercenaries the family buys for protection.
